Tsavo East and West National Park: Voi, Taita-Taveta County
Tsavo National Park, Kenya’s largest national park, spans 22,812 square kilometers and is divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Tsavo East, the largest of the two, covers 13,747 square kilometers, while Tsavo West occupies 9,065 square kilometers. The park is located just 156 kilometers from Mombasa and its extensive landscape provides a rich habitat for all of Africa’s Big Five: lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and rhinos, including both black and white rhinos.
Tsavo West is known for its rugged mountains and iconic Mzima Springs, where visitors can observe hippos and crocodiles in crystal-clear waters. The park also houses the Julia Rhino Sanctuary, a critical refuge for endangered rhinos, as well as the Shetani Lava Flow, a dramatic landscape of black lava formations and caves.
In Tsavo East, attractions like the Galana River, Yatta Plateau (one of the world’s longest lava flows), and Lugard Falls create an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
