Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park: Wasini Island, Kwale County
Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park is a must-see destination in Kenya if you’re passionate about marine life, especially dolphins. The park is located 77 kilometers south of Mombasa and has a combined area of 39 square kilometers (28 square kilometers for Kisite and 11 for Mpunguti Reserve).
The waters surrounding the park are teeming with life, from vibrant coral gardens to schools of colorful fish, rays, and turtles. In fact, the park has earned its designation as a “Blue Park,” famously referred to as the “home of the dolphin.” Therefore, it is considered one of the best places in Kenya to encounter wild dolphins in their natural habitat.
In addition to its marine life, Kisite Mpunguti is surrounded by the tranquil beauty of Wasini Island, a charming destination where visitors can enjoy local seafood, explore the island’s culture, and experience traditional Swahili life. The nearby Shimoni Caves, with their historical significance in the East African slave trade, offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s past.
